DALAN Law firm was established in 1992 following the merger of two long-established Norwegian law firms, Dalan, Sigmond and Swang (founded 1876) and Lous, Hagemann, Arff-Pettersen and Løken (founded 1862).\
Over the years, DALAN has been involved in many major construction projects throughout Norway. Our clients have included power companies, industrial concerns, landowners, central government and municipalities.
In recent years we have implemented organisational changes designed to enable us to continue to provide the highest quality legal advice in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. By investing in modern accounting systems and electronic legal research tools we have enhanced our ability to provide optimal services to individual clients , while at the same time boosting our position in the legal services market. At all times our priority is to ensure that every client matter is handled by a lawyer with particular expertise in the relevant area of the law.
Geographically speaking, our practice area has always been nationwide. Our strategy is to build further on our traditional strengths as a general commercial practice with a particular focus on real estate law. We have wide-ranging expertise in many areas of real estate law, including property law, environmental law, compulsory purchase law, water law, natural heritage law, land consolidation, reindeer husbandry law, construction law, property development, real estate transactions, matters concerning roads and power lines, matters arising under the Planning and Building Act, the Neighbouring Properties Act , the Easement Act, and the Joint Property Act.
We also have a strong general civil law practice and enjoy substantial expertise in many areas of commercial law, including contract law, competition law, EU law, employment law, intellectual property law, IT law, trade law, energy law, company law, tax law, accounting law, and family business succession .
The firm has 35 members of staff, comprising 19 partners, nine associate and trainee lawyers, two accounts personnel and five secretaries. We prioritise the maintenance of high professional and ethical standards, the personal integrity of our staff, client confidentiality and personalised client follow-up. Every matter is put under the charge of a designated lawyer. Our goal is for every client to benefit from the services of the most experienced lawyer in the relevant area of the law.
Some clients engage us for assistance in a particular matter, while others engage our services on an on-going advisory basis. We also tender for contracts to provide legal services. Our fees are normally based on hourly rates and we endeavour at all times to provide the most cost-effective services possible to our clients.
Where a matter is to be billed on an hourly basis, the following hourly rates will apply:
- Partners NOK 1000 – NOK 3500 (exclusive of VAT) (NOK 1250 – NOK 4375 inclusive of VAT.)
- Associate and trainee lawyers NOK 1000 – NOK 2500 (exclusive of VAT) (NOK 1250 – NOK 3125 inclusive of VAT.)
Our minimum chargeable unit is 15 minutes. We reserve the right to amend our fees subject to one month’s notice.
